CFIA Federal Inspected Plant
Intercity Packers has been a CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) Federal Inspected Plant since 1983. Our Establishment Number is 230. We have a CFIA Inspector onsite daily, who performs the CVS (Compliance Verification System) tasks to ensure our Food Safety Programs meet the Meat Inspection Regulations.
Intercity Packers has had its HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) Program in place since November 1, 1999. It is recognized by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
An important piece of our HACCP Program is the Recall Program. We are able to track and trace all raw materials used and all products produced from these materials. If for any reason a product needs to be recalled, we are able to contact every customer with further direction.
E coli 0157:H7 Testing
Intercity Packers sources all raw beef materials for grinding from reputable suppliers only. These suppliers are required to test all of their raw materials for Ecoli 0157:H7 and receive a “negative” result before shipping to us. Certificates of Analysis (COA) are kept on file for all raw beef materials purchased.
3rd Party Audit
Intercity Packers is required by a number of our larger customers to have a Food Safety Quality Assurance Audit performed annually. We have GFTC (Guelph Food Technology Centre) come in once a year and audit our written program followed by a on-site tour. These audits bring food safety in the Food Industry to new levels all the time.
